Facilities & Redevelopment

Highgate School’s history is reflected in the mix of traditional and new buildings and classrooms.
In recent years, we have been fortunate to receive funding through the Better Schools initiative for our redevelopment projects and in 2022, we opened two new buildings. The early years block is currently used by our year 2 students and a multi-purpose building (Opie) houses specialist STEM, music providers and our OSHC service. We also levelled and re-surfaced our netball/basketball courts, opened four new play areas, created a new parent/child seating area and repaired our sandpit. Finally, our 2021 year 6/7 students gifted clay leaves to the Reception students, which together form a mural on the Canteen wall.
Following considerable flood damage in June 2022, we also upgraded the resource centre, carpets and pinboards in the central building (including three classrooms). Generous donations from our community enabled us to undertake painting in the flood-affected areas, with remaining funds to support the purchase of outdoor musical instruments in 2023.
Our next large-scale project will be the renewal of the school oval, which will include the relocation of the cricket nets and remaining pathways and landscaping. Our future hope is that we will also be able to weather-proof the external areas behind our early years classrooms so that they can be used all year round.
In 2023, smaller scale projects will include working bees to refresh nature play spaces. If you would like to get involved in any of these projects, we always welcome volunteers.
