Principal’s Welcome

Highgate School is situated in Highgate, an established eastern suburb of the city of Adelaide, South Australia, approximately 6km from the city centre. The school was opened on 23rd July 1923 and will celebrate its centenary this year. In 2023, we have approx. 620 students across Reception – Year 6.

Highgate is a highly progressive school, offering a LabelFranc accredited, bilingual/binational French program alongside a traditional mainstream program. Both two pathways incorporate strong programs in languages, STEM, music and sports. The school achieved candidacy for the IB Primary Years Program at the end of 2021 and is currently working towards full accreditation by the end of 2024. Our teaching and learning programs embed inquiry pedagogies and student agency, taught through a trans-disciplinary approach and showcased through various events during the year.

Our Strategic Plan is focused on four key areas: Learning, Community, Wellbeing and Environment. Governing Council works closely with the school to engage community voice and maintain a continuous improvement journey. Highgate School enjoys strong community and staff support and our school values of Honesty, Integrity, Respect and Kindness are embedded in everything that we do. We promote inclusion and wellbeing and have a range of different approaches and programs that support social and emotional development, as well as academic learning. In 2022, we began to review our Reconciliation Action Plan and. As part of this, our year 6 students worked with Uncle Tamaru to develop artwork that contributes to the Fulton & Hogan Reconciliation Action Plan. This work will continue into 2023 when we will be collaborating with our partnership schools and pre-schools.

We have recently completed a significant redevelopment and opened two new buildings, as well as several new play spaces. 2023 will be another exciting year as the school and wider community celebrate Highgate’s Centenary.
